meet 72 of the most amazing people i’ve ever met.. can you believe 48 of them are only 11?!so, i spent 28 days of my summer at an international summer camp with an amazing NGO called CISV. i’ve been apart of CISV since i was 11, they helped me become a global citizen, so to speak. i helped take care of 48 eleven year olds from all over the world, and helped teach them that they aren’t that different. that even if we’re from all over the world, we can all still be friends. i came in thinking “awesome, i’m going to help teach and make these kids realise their role in a global community.” turns out, they could teach me so much as well. i love all 48 kids immensely as well as the 4 awesome staff, 5 other kickass junior councilors, 3 amazing kitchen staff and the 12 admirable leaders who took these kids on the adventure of a lifetime. the camp was so diverse, we had people from australia, belgium, bulgaria, denmark, finland, germany, hong kong, india, italy, mexico, norway, the philippines, portugal and the united states. spending almost a month with these people has made them all practically family, and i’m so happy i can say that i’ve got amazing friends from all over the world and all walks of life. i spent my 17th birthday with these people and i wouldn’t have had it any other way. some people my age would think who would want to spend a whole month of their summer with a bunch of 11 year olds. maybe it isn’t for everyone, but i can honestly say this, kids can and will surprise you. so even if their generation seems so based upon terrible TV shows and horrible movies (what happened to the disney classics?!) these kids have their hearts in the right places. it’s just up to us to help steer them in the right direction. as for the people i met who were my age or older, i love the whole leader group, staff group, jc group and kitchen staff group to no end. you guys helped in making one of the most amazing summers’ of my life. time with you lot was never wasted.. (except the whole showertime fiasco.. we could’ve gone without that, i think.)
we helped create a magical experience for these kids and i am so proud of us. and along the way there was so much laughter, tears, sweat, moose, nugatti, that belgian spread and one too many inside jokes. i love you, peace of cake village 2011.
missing my peace of cake family.
